Day 07 : Weekly Reflections

I have always loved the idea of keeping a weekly record of events, highlights, lessons learned, small joys, gratitude, glimmers, etc. I imagine these reflections as time capsules in list form of all the things that had an impact or left an impression. I’d love to come to the end of the year and have a place to turn to as I look back over the expanse of time.

But I almost always get to the end of the week and find that I have no energy left for looking back, and so I haven’t made it a priority. This is the beginning of my attempt at devoting a moment to reflection at the end of each week.

1. What felt energizing, satisfying, or alive this week?

Choosing to nurture myself with a riverfront walk alongside the water first thing in the morning.

The daily creative practice of sharing something here in my Spiral Library every day. The cumulative effect of daily devotional practices.

The inspiration I’m finding in the Labyrinth group.

2. What felt draining, forced, or out of sync?

Too many late nights staying up to watch Only Murders in the Building. Too much of a good thing.

3. What do I want to remember or carry forward?

How important it has been to slow down and hold space for the full arch of my children’s emotions. How we all need to be allowed to feel through the layers of what we’re holding in our bodies, minds, hearts. How important it is to care for myself as a parent so that I have the inner resource to be a safe space for their growth and emotional expression, which isn’t always expressed in the kindest way by children.

Water is important. Sleep is important. Movement is important. When I’m avoid my emotions, I tend to avoid my body, and I forget to care for it in the ways that are most nurturing for me.

EXPRESSIONS OF OCTOBER 2025 — TINY DAILY PAINTINGS:

This is a daily creative practice I’ve done on and off for the past couple of years. I picked it back up this month after almost a full year away, and I’m reminded of how good it feels to have a daily practice of putting brush to paper even if only for five minutes.

LISTENED TO: Jacob Collier’s new album!
