Day 26 : Kindness and Connection

We walked through our neighborhood in the darkness of the late October evening, rain soaking our jackets and their costumes. Peter Pan and Captain Hook. They knocked on each door and were greeted by smiling faces and sweets. We hardly saw any other families out walking, likely due to the rain and the chill. What a funny tradition, trick-or-treating, but there is such warmth in these small interactions, human to human, kindness and connection. This funny tradition feels somehow more important than ever.

Earlier in the day, before school pickup, costumes, and evening adventure, I took a walk in a different neighborhood filled with brightly colored trees dropping leaves that blanketed the streets, and I walked past this poem, which feels important to hold onto:
