Sensing Winter: An Inner Warmth Art & Nature Workshop

My winter collage.

I joined a dear friend at a winter workshop at Hoyt Arboretum. We were led on a short walk through the winter gardens, guided through a short meditation, and set free to create with an abundance of paper, paints, dried plants, and ephemeral collage supplies.

I started by intuitively collecting whatever bits and pieces caught my eye. Then I put watercolor to paper, creating an ethereal blue atmosphere, before arranging the other pieces of my little puzzle.

It was wonderful and freeing, and I spent a good portion of the time creating my first Newspaper Blackout Poem, which reads as this:

When darker months hit,

Crawl
into the light—

leave your
pain
thoughts

hellish
meditations

free
your

breath

you can do anything for two minutes

seriously

Thank you to Clara-Julia Peru for offering this winter cocoon for making art.
