Studio Hours : Day 05
Wednesday’s studio hours begin at 8am, which so far means I’m rolling out of bed at 7:30am, making breakfast, and then taking the first half hour of the two hour studio time to eat, which I’m honestly not mad about.
After nourishing my body, with food I set a timer for five minutes, lay on the floor and meditated/breathed in and out. Then I rolled around stretching my hips and back before turning my attention to my weaving project.
I added several rows and am really enjoying experimenting with a much looser weave this time. The first one was so tight (a reflection of something else perhaps, body and/or mind?) it was nearly impossible to get the needle to pass through the warp towards the end.
One thing I realized today, not only do I need an alarm to signal when to begin studio hours, I need one to prompt me to finish and close out the session. It’s nice to really get in the flow and get lost in time, and yet, if I am to make this a sustainable practice, I really do need to turn my attention to the rest of the obligations that fill the day. I find that I also don’t love an abrupt ending to studio hours, as much as I’m finding the ten minute tidy up to be a good transition into the practice, today I decided to have an alarm go off ten minutes before the end time so that I can wrap up what’s currently in motion and take a moment to exhale before moving onto the next thing.
All in all, it really does feel luxurious and lovely to begin the day this way. Happy, grateful.
The golden breakfast moment. The artist must be nourished. lol.
Row by row, making progress on this second weaving. My sister thinks this one looks like ramen, and she’s not wrong :)
