Day 32 : Writing for Guidance

Writing for Guidance is a simple and yet profound practice I first learned about through Julia Cameron’s books. It’s a form of written dialogue with a wiser, loving presence within (or beyond) ourselves.

The practice begins by asking a specific question or exploring an area of uncertainty. You might begin with Dear guidance... or Dear love... or Dear Great Mother... or whatever feels most alive for you. Then you let the response flow freely, without stopping, overthinking, or editing. What emerges can be incredibly simple, profoundly expansive, and almost always exactly what you need to hear most of all.

Julia Cameron teaches that this practice helps us access our intuition and spiritual clarity through the act of writing. Others, like Elizabeth Gilbert in her Letters From Love practice, frame it as writing to and from Love itself. However you name it, the essence is the same: to connect with a deeper voice of wisdom, comfort, and truth that lives within and that is always available to you.

Dear guidance, help me understand where I am right now.

My love, first, know that you are right where you are meant to be, right on time, and exactly as you are meant to be. Everything is just right, including you. So take a deep breath. You have already arrived, and again and again, you arrive each moment, perfect and enough, just as you are.

Let that ease the tightness in your body, because always, every moment, there is only this and the choice you make as you step into the next moment of now. That is all there is, again and again.

It is really that simple, and that beautiful, and that freeing. Faith is not knowing. Trust is surrender.

You do not need to know anything beyond this moment. And in this moment, the truth is that here you are, in the safety of your warm, dry home, a beeswax candle glowing and dancing, Irish fiddle music playing. You are here. And then you will be in the next moment of here.

Trust me, the more you surrender, the more you will open your eyes to the clarity that is always available to you in the here and now of presence.

Everything, everything is speaking to you. Slow down. Open your eyes and your heart, and listen. Surrender to the great sea of listening to what is present. Let it wash over you, and trust that what is meant for you will find its way.

Your only job is to be as open as possible to receiving everything that is meant for you.
