an underworld of all the pain
you’ve held at bay
arriving disoriented
though you’ve been here
many times before
you stumble and trip
unable to get your bearings
every part of you wants to run
you make every attempt at escape
but the only thing to do
is sit still
let the eyes and heart
adjust to the darkness
though you can’t force trust
know you won’t be here for long
and know too,
this won’t be your last visit
